SWTOR Boarding Party Strategy Guide
Boarding Party is the second Imperial-only flashpoint in the game. In this SWTOR Boarding Party strategy guide, you will find all the strategies you need to beat each boss in the flashpoint as well as how to get access to all the bonuses here.
Below, you will find an overview of this flashpoint, followed by boss strategies for each specific boss in this Star Wars The Old Republic Flashpoint.
SWTOR Boarding Party Guide – Overview
Like the first Imperial-only Flashpoint (Black Talon), Boarding Party is a lot longer than most flashpoints. With 6 total bosses in the flashpoint, one of which is a bonus boss unlocked by completing the bonus quests in the instance.
Here are the basics of the instance:
- Faction: Imperial Players only (Taral V is the Republic Equivalent)
- Recommended Level Range: 32-38 (instance is level 33-35).
- Zone-In: From the same elevator you take to get to earlier level missions, there is a new level you can select which contains a taxi to another ship in the Imperial Shuttle. On this second ship you will find the zone-in to Boarding Party.
- Time: At least 1-hour, even without any wipes.
- Bosses: 5 standard bosses plus one bonus boss.
Below, we will start the boss strategy section.
SWTOR Boarding Party Guide – Boss Strategies
There are six bosses that you can fight in the Boarding Party flashpoint. Some are simple whereas others are more complex. Here are the strategies for winning:
HXI-54: HXI-54 is the first boss of this flashpoint. He has a decent amount of HP for a starting boss (52k health). He has a few abilities. His primary ability is when you get the emote he “pulls in energy”. After doing this, the boss will then create lightning beams from where he is standing to the pillars around the room. Standing in these beams does damage, so find a safe spot to stand and this is not important.
His other two abilities are pretty trivial. One ability is he marks the floor with a blue circle. If this appears near you, move away from it as he does an area of effect attack here shortly after. The final ropes a random player and pulls him a bit. It does not do much damage, just make sure you do not get pulled into an electrical beam or onto a blue circle and the fight is easy.
Major Alvena: Major Alvena is the second boss in Boarding Party and is very easy. She spawns with two elites, Battledroids, which you can use CC effects on. Just CC each droid and its no problem. This boss only drops commendations rather than blues.
Sakan Do’Nair: Sakan is a Jedi who has two adds. At first it looks like you can use CC abilities on each healer, but Sakan regularly breaks this. If you look closely, the adds have very little HP, so you can burn them down one at a time practically instantly, at which point the fight is easy. If you try to regularly CC the adds, they will heal the boss eventually.
Lieutenant Menerus: Another easy boss with basic Trooper abilities. The only trick here is you usually get this boss at the same time as a pack of trash mobs. Have the tank on the boss, CC any elite adds, then burn down the trash pack one enemy at a time. Once the trash is out of the way, the boss is simple.
Chief Engineer Kels: This is the bonus boss that you can get by clearing the bonus objectives in this flashpoint. The fight looks intimidating at first with three champion NPCs that cannot be crowd-controlled, but it is not that bad. The only thing you really have to worry about is the exploding reactors, which deal damage if you stand too close to them. Stick towards the center of the room and this really is not a problem.
The only other thing with Kels is you want to kill the bots first. If you do not they explode. Sometimes a shield will be cast on Kels and a droid but it is not a big deal, just keep burning down the shielded droid as there seems to be no serious repercussions to this. It is better to get 1 droid out of the way because as soon as one is down it really cuts down on the damage your group takes. Kill both droids and then kill Kels – easy fight.
Commander Jorland – This fight does not look that hard at first glance because none of the NPCs are champion level. However, this may be a mistake as this is definitely by far the hardest fight in the instance. There are three NPCs: Jorland, a Medic, and a Melee DPS class. Everyone needs to stay spread out and the tank must tank the melee class away from the group as he does a lot of AoE damage. There is a lot of damage thrown around in this fight in general.
Note that you cannot CC any of the adds so you must fight all three at once. You have to kill the healer first, as the healer’s abilities are very, very strong. You need to interrupt as many heals as you can as well because otherwise you will find it hard to out-DPS the healer’s output.
The medic also deals damage, so the sooner you can kill him, the faster the damage output goes down to a manageable level. There is definitely a lot of damage being thrown around, so you need to kill the medic fast and interrupt his heals before your healer runs out of resources. If you interrupt the heals and tank the melee class away from the rest of the group, the fight is not nearly as bad.
SWTOR Boarding Party Guide – Bonuses & Alignment Point
As mentioned in the boss guide, there is a bonus boss you can access in the Boarding Party flashpoint. In order to do this, you must complete the three bonus objectives:
- Stage 1: Defeat 50 Republic Forces.
- Stage 2: Defeat 10 Jedi.
- Stage 3: Shut down a number of Reactor Security Terminals
- Stage 4: Shut down the Reactor (i.e. fight the boss).
The three stages are pretty easy as you kill enough of these enemies to make the totals without having to go out of your way to do it. The only objective you actually have to make an effort for is shutting down the Reactor Security Terminals, which are stations you can interact with in the latter part of the instance.
Additionally, at the end of the instance, you can earn 100 Light Side or Dark Side points, depending on your choice. If you execute the crew of the ship, you will get Dark Side points, if you let them live, you get Light Side points.
SWTOR Boarding Party Strategy Guide – Conclusion
The Boarding Party instance is not too difficult in terms of mechanics, but the final encounter may test the damage and healing output of groups which are of a low level. By completing this flashpoint, you unlock access to The Foundry flashpoint, which is the next flashpoint for Imperial players.
